Sedation and Sleep Dentistry
Finding a dentist that makes you feel at ease can be difficult. Have you ever asked yourself: who is a dentist near me who makes me comfortable? Well, now Coventry Dental Care is that dental office. It is our mission at Coventry Dental Care to make every patient comfortable. We understand that for some, going to see the dentist can be a great source of stress and anxiety. Be assured that our practice is fully equipped and able to provide comfortable dental care to even the most anxious of patients. There is no need for fear to keep you away from receiving routine dental care or specific treatment. This way you are less likely to develop major oral health problems to the point where advanced dental treatments may be required. For sedation dentistry, we have a few options you have accessible to your listed below.
Laughing Gas or Nitrous Oxide
Laughing gas is considered to be a light sedative and works great for children and patients with mild anxiety. It is administered through a nose hood and all you have to do is breathe in and out. Most patients will report feeling very relaxed and happy during their dental appointment. It also makes time “go by faster”, making the appointment feel shorter than it would appear otherwise. Laughing gas is also very convenient, as patients are fully recovered by the end of the appointment and are able to drive home on their own.
Oral Moderate Sedation or “The Pill”
This is a wonderful option for adult patients who have moderate anxiety. You will take a pill to help you relax. The pill will make you sleepy, and most patients become so comfortable that they can forget the entire dental appointment. We may also add laughing gas during the appointment to enhance the level of comfort. Please note, you will require a relative or friend to drive you to and from the appointment, and you will also need to take the next 24 hours to rest after the dental visit.
Sleep Dentistry or General Anesthesia
Sleep dentistry is the deepest form of sedation dentistry possible. This service is performed by our dental anesthesiologist who will make sure you are comfortably asleep for the entire duration of your appointment. Patients who benefit from this form sedation include those with severe dental anxiety, extensive treatment plans, those with strong gag reflexes and young children who cannot undergo procedures while awake. Similar to moderate sedation, you will require a relative or friend to drive you to and from the appointment, and you will also need to take the next 24 hours to rest after the dental visit.
